Reflections on a new start with Crown Chambers

Crown Chambers Senior Clerk Hayley Naylor has been with our team for two months in what has been a whirlwind few weeks of hard work and her feet not touching the ground.

We decided to explore and share her experiences of joining a new Chambers with our followers. Jo Pinkney our Marketing Lead chatted with Hayley on Zoom this week to find out more:

Hayley, how have your first few weeks with Crown Chambers been?

“It’s been a very exciting few weeks, I’ve been incredibly busy but it’s great to be working with such a skilled set of Barristers who are well known for their qualities and work ethic. I have spent the first few weeks getting to grips with establishing processes for Chambers to ensure we operate efficiently and are ready for the even busier times ahead. Along with ensuring we are operating well for the future, we have increased our workload at the same time which has brought in several very interesting cases and return professional clients for which we appreciate. Our professional clients have been nothing other than welcoming and encouraging which has been great to see.”

Tell us a little more about the work you have been doing on processes and improvements over the last few weeks:

“I have been focusing on our internal systems which will support both myself and Clerk Louise Clipson and our team of Barristers to manage our workload. We’ve covered off billing and the implementation of our new software platform that not only manages our diaries and client data but will help us to run marketing campaigns and communicate with our professional clients going forwards.”

You work directly alongside Louise Clipson who is also new to Chambers, what has she been focusing on?

“Louise has come into Chambers and had to apply the knowledge of her previous role to our day-to-day operations as well as build relationships with all the Barristers. She has also got to grips with all the administration and billing and is really excelling at this. Louise is a real problem solver and enjoys working with the team – she’s a pleasure to work with”.

Any early challenges Hayley?

“I think the main challenge for everyone at the moment is COVID. However, we are innovating how we work and implementing remote working. The continuation of remote and hybrid hearings has become the new norm. Regular communication between us all keeps the wheels turning for our clients and our video conferencing facility has been put to good use.”

What’s been the highlight of your first few weeks?

“The biggest highlight has been our rapidly growing team. We’ve had several new members join us and a lot of very interesting cases coming into the Chambers. Being joined by our first Silk Paul Storey QC was a real high point for us all. We’re all really looking forward to the continued expansion and months ahead as we continue to grow and excel.”
