April 8th 2025
CARDIFF – Today, Yasmin Sarwar, pleaded not guilty to all charges she is facing during a hearing at Cardiff Magistrates Court. She was charged in February 2025 along with her ex-husband and the accountant who was also the auditor of the college at which the fraud is alleged to have happened.
Yasmin co-founded the college in 2004 and worked there until 2016. Her role during that time was solely related to academic achievement, pastoral care, and marketing. During her time there, she was awarded the Pearson Teaching award as well as winning Science Teacher of the Year in 2011.
Speaking at the hearing, Nigel Edwards KC requested for bail conditions to be imposed on Nadeem Sarwar, including that he can no longer contact her, owing to, “the years of abuse and suffering that Yasmin suffered at the hands of Nadeem. She has been divorced from him for over 10 years and it will be deeply upsetting for Yasmin if Nadeem is allowed to contact her. Yasmin was a victim of severe domestic abuse and owing to this she was never able to question his financial decisions – if the bail conditions are not imposed on Nadeem it will be highly triggering for Yasmin who has made every attempt to move on with her life…”
He continued that, “Yasmin was the educationalist who lead the school to achieve record breaking A-level results, and there is no reason that she should not be allowed to continue the important academic work that she is renowned for.”
The case has been moved to Cardiff Crown Court and the next hearing is set for May 6th 2025.
Nigel Edwards KC is instructed by Ian Anderson of Schofield Sweeney Solicitors.
