Case Outcome: Acquittal Secured Following 18-Week Trial
Nigel Edwards KC, appeared before the Winchester Crown Court on behalf of one of ten defendants facing allegations including murder, manslaughter and involvement in the activities of an organised crime group.
Following an 18-week trial involving extensive video-recorded evidence, thousands of communications and significant scientific material, the defendant was acquitted of all charges and was the only defendant to leave court facing no further allegations.
The trial judge directed acquittals on the counts of murder and manslaughter following complex legal submissions advanced by Mr Edwards KC. On 14 May 2026, the jury unanimously acquitted the defendant of the remaining allegation of involvement in an organised crime group.
The jury were repeatedly commended throughout proceedings and recognised as exemplifying the continuing importance of trial by jury within the justice system. A significant outcome in a challenging and complex case.
