Blaise Morris secures sexual assault conviction involving 15-year-old complainant.
Blaise Morris was successful in securing a sexual assault conviction against a 30-year-old male. The Defendant approached the 15-year-old Complainant at a bus stop and asked her for a cigarette. The Defendant made sexually inappropriate comments before subjecting her to a sexual assault in broad daylight.
The Defence sought to persuade the court that the Complainant was mistaken in hearing the sexual comments. In examination in chief, the Defendant denied touching the Complainant but conceded in cross-examination he touched her. His evidence contradicted the account he gave to police which was that he stumbled and leant on her to assist him in getting up.
The court unanimously convicted the defendant in under 50 minutes.
