ABOUT CHLOE

Crime

Chloe has built up a successful and busy criminal practice in a short space of time since completing pupillage in 2023. This is testament to her maturity, confidence and tenacity as an advocate, together with her high level of attention to detail and excellent rapport with lay clients and professionals. Chloe is a Level 3 prosecutor and has been appointed to the RASSO panel. She has completed the Vulnerable Witness Advocacy Training Course and recently, the RASSO Course. She is routinely instructed in complex and multi-handed cases well beyond her year of call including; large-scale drug operations, robbery, burglary, domestic violence and youth matters. She consistently receives positive judicial feedback when prosecuting on her ability to understand and present the case fairly, and her detailed sentencing notes. Chloe has developed a particular specialism in Driving and Road Traffic Offences. She is continuously successful with legal arguments to avoid a driving ban such as; exceptional hardship and special reasons.

Family

Chloe accepts instructions in public and private law children proceedings. In care proceedings, she is regularly instructed to act on behalf of the local authority and parents. She has appeared at all different stages; from urgent applications for an interim care order for removal through to contested final hearings. Local authorities have given particular positive feedback on Chloe’s ability to turn weak applications into successful results, her detailed notes of the hearing and prompt yet effective drafting of case management orders. In private law children proceedings, Chloe has significant experience in dealing with contested applications for non-molestation orders and child arrangements orders. Chloe represents parents where there are allegations of parental alienation and domestic abuse. She has particular success representing fathers who have faced injustice regarding child contact arrangements, enabling them to go from no contact to unsupervised overnight contact within a short timetable.

Reported Cases

R v Carter (2024) – Chloe successfully prosecuted a level 3 case whereby a man was charged with Possession with Intent to Supply Class A drugs, Being Concerned in the Supply of Class A drugs and Possession of an Imitation Firearm. The jury returned unanimous verdicts after only two hours of deliberations. https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/crime/wakefield-drug-dealer-said-fake-gun-found-in-glovebox-was-confiscated-from-his-daughter-4814801

R v S (2024) – Chloe prosecuted a domestic violence related assault by beating and threats with a bladed article. The Defendant initially pleaded Not Guilty but later changed the plea and was subsequently sentenced to 18 Months’ imprisonment for the violence and a further 20 Weeks’ imprisonment for breach of his suspended sentence order. https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/grimsby-news/woman-feared-life-after-being-9369614

R v B (2024) – Chloe defended a man charged with section 20 GBH; whereby he had punched the victim to the head causing a fractured skull and a bleed to the brain. The victim had significant learning difficulties. Chloe mitigated that the assault was impulsive, short-lived and not pre-meditated – the Defendant having no knowledge of the victim’s vulnerabilities. Chloe successfully argued for a suspended sentence order, resulting in the defendant avoiding imprisonment and instead was asked to pay compensation. https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/local-news/angry-stepdad-attacked-man-learning-9107867

Notable Cases

R v H (2025) – Appeal against Sentence. Chloe successfully argued exceptional hardship for an Appellant who had “totted” with 15 penalty points, resulting in them avoiding a 6-month driving ban.

R v R (2024) – Chloe defended a woman charged with robbery relating to use of force in joint enterprise with her partner in order to steal a dog. It was raised to the prosecution that the elements of robbery were not satisfied on the basis of the CCTV footage and in considering the two-stage test developed in Ivey v Genting Casinos [2018] AC 391 regarding dishonesty. This was accepted by the prosecution and no evidence was offered resulting in a formal Not Guilty verdict.

R v LN and Others (2024) – Chloe defended a man charged with Production of a Controlled Drug of Class B. This case involved a large-scale cannabis farm, multiple defendants, complex disclosure issues relating to Public Interest Immunity and the Defendant relied on the defence of modern slavery. Following pressure on a number of disclosure issues, the prosecution formally offered no evidence, and a Not Guilty verdict was entered.

R v TN (2023) – Shortly after obtaining tenancy, Chloe was instructed in a multi-handed drugs case. She successfully ran a defence of section 45 Modern Slavery Act 2015, despite a negative NRM referral. The jury returned with a unanimous verdict of Not Guilty.

R v M (2023) – Whilst still in her second-six of pupillage, Chloe successfully prosecuted a man charged with domestic violence related assault against his wife and two children. The case involved complex witness handling of multiple complainants, special measures, and the issue of self-defence. With the assistance of videos and a 999 call, Chloe was able to undermine the defence by demonstrating that D was the aggressor from the outset.
